Kittens and newly adopted cats without vaccination history need to be tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunosuppressive Virus Whether or not they are given Feline Leukemia vaccine. Feline Leukemia vaccine is recommended for cats that go outdoors.

Description of Vaccinations

FDVRvsC - A combination vaccine providing protection against Distemper, Rhinotracheitis, and Calici viruses, including the new virulent strain of Calicivirus. The vaccine is initially given as a series. All subsequent vaccines are given either every 1 or 3 years depending on your cats’ potential exposure.

Rabies - The first vaccine given to a dog is good for 1 year. All subsequent rabies vaccines are good for 3 years. Maryland state law requires this vaccine.

Leukemia - Leukemia is given initially as a 2 part series, and then a booster is administered on a yearly basis.

Description of Illnesses

Calici - A highly contagious bacterial disease that causes tracheobronchitis (kennel cough).

Distemper - An often fatal viral disease affecting all body systems, especially the nervous and respiratory.

Leukemia - A contagious viral disease of cats. The leukemia virus is a retrovirus, similar to the HIV virus in man. It suppresses the cat’s immune system making it susceptible to many secondary diseases. The disease is not curable at this time.

Rabies - An always fatal viral disease affecting the nervous system.

Rhinotracheitis - A highly contagious upper respiratory virus of cats.

Description of Vaccinations

DHPP - A combination vaccine providing protection against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus.

Lepto - This vaccine contains the four most common serotypes of Leptospirosis for this area.

Bord - The Kennel Cough Vaccine. It protects against the bacteria, Bordetella, and the virus, Parainfluenza.

Parvovirus - A highly contagious and often fatal viral disease that affects the intestinal tract.

Influenza - A highly contagious virus that can be fatal.
